More Information for new clients:

I will then ask you some questions that are pertinent to the therapy that you are requesting. This may include where you are having problems and what type of massage you desire at this time.

You will then be taken back to my therapy room, there will be soft music playing when your session starts. You will be instructed on how to lie on the massage table, I always start with you lying face up with you on your back unless I am just working on your back or an area on the back of the body. I will leave the room so that you can undress, you are to get on the massage table, and cover yourself with the sheet and blanket provided. I will always knock or ask if you are ready before I re-enter the room. Remember to remove jewelry, which may interfere with the session. You will be completely draped with a blanket and sheet during your session. Only the part of your body being massaged will be uncovered. This allows the rest of the body to remain warm which increases the benefits of the massage. I will never do anything, which violates your privacy or modesty. Your session will include a soothing and warm heated table; hot, moist towels; hot and moist foot booties. If you do not want any of these during your session please let me know ahead of time.

When I come back into the room I will start the massage. Conversation is usually limited unless initiated by you, the client. Each massage will be tailored to a specific client’s needs and desires. You will remain covered by the sheet and blanket during the entire massage and only the body parts that are being worked on will be exposed. At no time will genitals be exposed and at no time will breasts on women be exposed or worked on.

I will use bolsters to help protect your back while lying down and pillows can be used for additional support if needed. A face cradle is used in the face down position so work can be done on your neck. Sometimes you may experience congestion in your sinuses due to this face-down position, but this is usually only temporary.

Remember to breathe slowly and deeply throughout the session. Breathing will help to reduce tension and it will assist in the flow of blood and oxygen to restricted muscle tissue.

Sessions normally last for approximately 1 hour for a full body massage. I use a variety of different creams, oils and therapeutic muscle rubs during your session. Please be sure to tell your therapist before your session if you have ANY allergies to products(ex: peanuts, preservatives, etc). The full body will be massaged unless a particular injury or muscle group needs extensive work. The genitals are never massaged. I will ask you to communicate with me about pressure, comfort or causes of injuries and soreness. Always ask any questions that come into your mind. I will be happy to explain any techniques and will try to answer any massage related questions. Always tell the therapist if you are experiencing pain or discomfort.

I realize that people relax in many different ways. Feel free to talk, be silent, sleep, or meditate. The therapist will not initiate unnecessary chatting, so as not to disturb those who wish to be silent.

After your session your therapist will leave the room for a few minutes while you have hot moist towels on your back, take this time to absorb the session and just mellow out. Your therapist will come back in and remove the towels. After the towels have been removed, your therapist will lower your table and leave the room to allow for you to slowly get up from the table, you may be lightheaded and need to come back to reality so take your time before you get up to get dressed. Once you are dressed the therapist will talk briefly with you about your session and future sessions if desired. I may suggest stretching or other after care instructions for you. Please try to follow them. They are important to your continuing care. Remember to remain well hydrated, as your body will be trying to remove toxins. Hydrated muscles remain supple and less spasmodic longer. I ask that you please tell me how you feel after the massage in comparison to when you came in. This helps me gain information about the effectiveness of certain techniques for your specific needs.

You may experience light-headedness immediately after the massage. This is due to the increase in circulation and oxygen being carried to your brain. This should pass quickly. Your muscles will continue to release in the hours following the massage. You may experience soreness and stiffness for the next day or so. Stretching, heat, ice or anti-inflammatory medications should take care of any discomfort. An Epsom Salt bath is also helpful. In rare cases, you may experience a flare up of your symptoms. Tell your therapist when this happens and they can adjust the massage accordingly.

Massage is a continuing process. Many physical symptoms cannot be resolved with just one session. Be patient and consistent. Remember, massage is not an indulgence; it is an important part of your health and well-being and is considered preventive medicine.

Refrain from vigorous exercise for 24 hours after a massage. Proper stretching is helpful in maintaining the increased flexibility that you will experience after your massage.

Soreness: it is possible to be sore after a session, especially if it is your first massage and you fail to drink plenty of water afterwards.
